CAST Groups

21 st Century Parenting

(Approved as a Court-ordered Parenting Class)

This program will help parents understand why a teen misbehaves and provide parents with the tools needed to stop problems and steps parents need to take to help their children.

  • You and your teen will develop a creative, personalized contract that contains rules and consequences based on your specific situation.
  • There are separate breakout sessions for teens and parents during the 2-1/2 hour class.
  • Parents may attend with or without their teens. If your teen refuses to come, that's alright, just let him or her know things will soon be changing.

*This program is only six sessions with limited enrollment.


Postpartum Stress

Postpartum Stress is not just about depression. It includes a range of emotions including anxiety, panic, obsessive-compulsions and others. These feelings can occur days or weeks after giving birth and affect women of every age, income level, race and culture. Having a time and place to talk about your pregnancy, the birth and the continuing postpartum experience is essential for dealing with these emotions, feelings and behaviors.


Divorce Recovery

Divorce Recovery is for those who have been or are currently in the process of divorce. The group offers the opportunity to develop coping skills to deal with anger, depression, loneliness and financial loss. Meet new people, make friends, and support each other. Develop emotional, financial and spiritual stability and learn how to help your children adjust during and after the divorce.

Meditation

Experience the many benefits of meditation practice. Learn to control your breathing, calm your body and mind, and how to access deeper levels of wisdom within yourself.

All types of books are discussed in this passionate group.


The 12-Steps for Adults

This program is based on a set of guiding principles for recovery from an addiction to alcohol and/or other drugs. The Steps may be summarized as:

  1. a process that involves admitting that one cannot control one's addiction
  2. recognizing a greater power that can give strength
  3. examining past errors with the help of a sponsor
  4. making amends for those errors
  5. learning to live a new life with a new system of behaviors

Men In Action

A practical, no-nonsense approach to dealing with men's issues. It helps men with feelings of isolation, male sexuality, difficulty in identifying feelings, trouble in establishing and maintaining satisfying relationships, and career difficulties. This is done by taking action in: accomplishing goals, changing unwanted behaviors, making lifestyle changes and improving communication skills.


Women's Group

This group focuses on personal growth and empowerment. By learning to trust we can improve our self-identity, confront our problems, improve relationships, and manage grief and loss.


Tweeners

A group for children from ages 9 to 12 that focus on transition from childhood to adolescence with issues related to separation and divorce, identity and change.


Friends and Fun

A special group for children from 5 through 8 that helps them identify and express feelings, develop social skills, deal with issues related to separation and divorce, address feelings about having special needs and develop family values.


Special attention for the adolescent

Teens (13-18) have multiple challenges during adolescence. This program offers teens the support and tools to communicate their needs and pursue their goals.

  • The Reality Hour
    In The Reality Hour, teens work with issues related to identity, family, peers, authority and responsibility in an action oriented approach that appeals to teens.
  • Expressive Arts
    Using various media (art, dance, poetry, music, drama) to foster better communication and expression, promote the integration of physical, emotional, cognitive and social functioning. We work to enhance self-awareness and facilitate change.
  • Life Skills
    Teens learn responsibilities such as job hunting and balancing bank accounts to grocery shopping and home management. What every teen should know before leaving home. The Twelve Steps for Teens The same steps as the original, but easier for teens to understand and put into practice.
  • Goal Setting
    Teens learn the importance of setting long and short term goals as part of their growing independence.
  • Multiple Family Group
    Families (parents and siblings) of teens involved in this program will be asked to participate in meetings to build a better understanding of your teen.

Not all of our groups are "Psychotherapeutic," some are psycho-educational, but the benefits, we believe, remain the same: we all have the capacity to grow and learn from each other.

Most groups meet for one hour on a weekly basis, unless otherwise noted. Fees vary for each group, except for the 12 step groups, which are free of charge.
