Amy Lord Biography

Amy Lord Walzel, LCSW

Amy Michelle Lord Walzel is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker whom graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a concentration in children and families. During her graduate studies at the University of Texas, Amy acquired knowledge, skills, and direct practice in mediation.

Amy has worked in direct practice with children and families in a variety of settings. During her work with Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Child Protective Services, she worked with children that had been sexually abused. She was a juvenile probation officer in Austin, Texas and provided short-term services to adolescents and their families. During her work as a juvenile probation officer, she also conducted mental health assessments and victim-offender mediations. She has also worked with children and families that have experienced domestic violence during her work at SafePlace, in Austin, Texas, a domestic violence shelter/transitional living facility, where she facilitated therapeutic children's groups.

Background experience includes receiving a Bachelors in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin, with a minor in Sociology. She gained experience working with foster parents and foster children during her internship at Caring Family Network, a therapeutic foster agency, and while she volunteered for several years as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. She belongs to the National Association of Social Workers, and the Association for Play Therapy, she is certified in anger management, conflict resolution and is working on her certification in play therapy.
